BESS Basics & Understanding
Is kW the same as kWh?

No. kW is the rate of power; kWh is stored or delivered energy. Both are required to describe a BESS.

Approximate duration equals usable energy divided by load, but actual duration also depends on conversion losses, auxiliary consumption, temperature, state-of-charge reserve and battery age.

Additional battery capacity installed during project life to compensate for degradation and maintain the contracted usable energy or duration.

Can BESS replace a diesel generator?

It can reduce or, in suitable cases, replace generator operation, but autonomy, recharge source, long outages, motor starting, black-start capability, and regulatory requirements must be engineered.

Yes, with a compatible AC-coupled or DC-coupled design. The preferred architecture depends on the existing solar plant, backup requirement, metering and interconnection rules.

What happens when the grid fails?

What is the life of a BESS?

Life is not a fixed number. It depends on chemistry, calendar age, cycles, depth of discharge, power rate, temperature, state of charge, and warranty conditions. Evaluate both years and guaranteed energy throughput.

No battery system should be described as fireproof. LFP is generally regarded as having stronger thermal stability than some other lithium-ion chemistries, but it still requires engineered prevention, detection, isolation, and emergency response.
